The Rural Thimble
The Rural Thimble Quilt Retreat
Surround yourself with creative people at The Rural Thimble, an exciting new quilt retreat center a stone’s throw away from Miller’s Dry Goods, Holmes County’s first fabric and quilt shop. Get together with friends and let your imagination be crafted into a new reality. Housed in a newly remodeled, early 20th Century farmhouse, you’ll experience all the modern conveniences with that small town welcome in Charm, the heart of Ohio’s Amish Country.
The sewing and crafting area is set up with ten stations, with each station consisting of one 5ft table, comfortable swivel chair, 3 drawer project cart, wastebasket and extension cord, along with additional amenities
On the main floor: one bedroom with 2 twin beds, large bathroom with jacuzzi tub and walk-in shower, additional ½ bath, washer & dryer.
Bring your own food and enjoy the fully equipped kitchen, with room for all around the beautiful hand-crafted dining room table.
Take a break in the living room area with comfy chairs and a queen size sleeper sofa, complete with a flat screen satellite tv.
Upstairs you’ll find 3 additional bedrooms. Two of the rooms have 2 twin beds, the other one has 2 twins and 1 queen. There is also a bathroom upstairs with a tub/shower combo and a separate sink/vanity area.
Two inviting porches complete the house, both furnished with rocking chairs.
The retreat is wheelchair accessible, linens and towels are provided. It has free wifi and central air conditioning. Accommodations are for 10-12. There are no pets allowed, and smoking is only permitted outside.
I have stayed at many quilt retreat facilities over the years but I think The Rural Thimble is the best! Ten of us stayed at the Thimble last weekend for 3 days. The amenities are great, everything was well planned out to make our sewing & relaxing easy & wonderful! The Thimble is super clean too! I could have stayed for a month! We booked again for 2016! Thanks for a truly wonderful stay.
Our group LOVES The Rural Thimble as a scrapbooking retreat. It is truly the best place we've stayed! It is very clean, small details have already been thought out for guests (from kitchen supplies to power cords in the main room), and it is located in a beautiful part of Amish Country. We love that you can unload with ease at the front door (no steps) and that there is at least one bedroom located on the main floor (for handicapped guests). Thanks for creating a special place for our annual fun!!
What a beautiful retreat house! Great space, great lighting and all the comforts of home. We had a fantastic weekend of 10 friends sewing, eating and catching up. Can't wait to book our next quilting retreat!
It's the cleanest nicest place we've ever stayed in!! Highly recommend it!!!
Ten of us were there for 4 days! What a wonderful time. Wonderful lighting, plenty of electric plugs, great kitchen, 3 ironing boards and 2 cutting stations. will be booking another retreat. Already have more than 10 quilting "sisters" wanting to go!!!!!!This is quilters retreat heaven.
What a wonderful place to stay. Great lighting, lot of room. Just fabulous! Good friends, lots of laughter and plenty of quilting. Lots of memories.
What a beautiful retreat house! We had a fun two days of sewing, eating and laughing. I plan to come back and stay again. Thank you for providing us with a home away from home.

I only have one or two people interested in a retreat. Can we join a group that’s coming to The Rural Thimble?
Currently The Rural Thimble does not host retreats where you join other groups. It is booked by individual groups who plan their own retreat.
Do we bring our own bed linens and towels?
No, Linens and towels are provided for you.
Do we need to bring a crock pot?
We have several crock pots! See our Kitchen Amenities for more information. Other than the food, we’ve tried to provide for all your cooking needs!
Do you provide irons?
You will need to bring your own iron. We do provide ironing boards as well as several covers that we wash as needed. The boards get lots of use (imagine quilters at work almost 24/7!) We keep the covers as clean as possible, but you may bring your own cover if you wish; our boards are standard size.
Is there a grocery store or restaurant nearby?
Yes, there are several restaurants and a small grocery store within walking distance. For additional information go to VisitCharmOhio.com
